His saying: "Then complete the fast until the night."
1689 - My father narrated to us, Abu al-Walid al-Tayalisi narrated to us, ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Iyad ibn Laqit narrated to us, Iyad ibn Laqit informed me, from Layla, the wife of Bashir ibn al-Khasasiyah, she said: "I wanted to fast two days in continuity (wisal), but Bashir forbade me and said: 'The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, forbade this and said: "The Christians do that; rather, fast as Allah commanded you: complete the fast until the night, and when the night comes, then break your fast."'
1690 - Harun ibn Ishaq narrated to us, ‘Abdah ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from Hisham ibn ‘Urwah, from his father, from ‘Asim ibn ‘Umar, from ‘Umar, he said: "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: 'When the night approaches, the day retreats, and the sun sets, then you have broken your fast.'"
His saying: "And do not associate with them while you are observing i’tikaf in the mosques."
1691 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding his saying: "And do not associate with them while you are observing i’tikaf in the mosques," this is concerning a man who is observing i’tikaf in the mosque during Ramadan or otherwise, so Allah forbade him from having intercourse with women, night and day, until he completes his i’tikaf.
Ibn Mas‘ud, al-Dahhak, al-Hasan, ‘Ata’, Muhammad ibn Ka‘b, Qatadah, Mujahid, al-Suddi, al-Rabi‘, and Muqatil reported: "He shall not approach her while he is in i’tikaf."
His saying: "While you are observing i’tikaf in the mosques."
1692 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Musa ibn Isma‘il narrated to us, Hammad, meaning ibn Salamah, narrated to us, from Thabit, from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Ubayd ibn ‘Umayr, he said: "I said to him: 'I see no other way but to speak to the commander about those people who sleep in the mosque and become in a state of janabah (impurity) and commit invalidators of ablution.' He said: 'Do not do that, for Ibn ‘Umar was asked about them and he said: "They are the ones observing i’tikaf."'
His saying: "These are the limits of Allah."
[The first interpretation]
