[His saying: "As the people have believed."]

127 - By the same chain from Ibn 'Abbas regarding: "As the people have believed," meaning: Affirm your faith just as the companions of Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—have affirmed that he is a Prophet and a Messenger, and that what Allah has revealed is the truth, and affirm your faith in the Hereafter and that you will be resurrected after death.

His saying: "They say, 'Should we believe?'"

128 - And by the same chain from Ibn 'Abbas regarding: "They say, 'Should we believe?'" he says: Should we say.

His saying: "As the foolish have believed."

129 - And by the same chain from Ibn 'Abbas regarding: "They say, 'Should we believe as the foolish have believed?'" they say: Should we say as the foolish say, meaning the companions of Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—because of their opposition to their religion.

130 - 'Isam ibn al-Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far al-Razi narrated to us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah: "They say, 'Should we believe as the foolish have believed?'" meaning the companions of Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Thus it was interpreted by al-Suddi.

His saying, Exalted is He: "Unquestionably, it is they who are the foolish."

131 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-'Ala' narrated to us, 'Uthman ibn Sa'id narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah narrated to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas: Allah says: "Unquestionably, it is they who are the foolish," he says: The ignorant.

His saying: "But they do not know."

132 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us via the same chain, from Ibn 'Abbas: "But they do not know," he says: But they do not understand.

His saying, Exalted is He: "And when they meet those who believe, they say, 'We have believed.'"

133 - And by the same chain from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And when they meet those who believe, they say, 'We have believed,'" he said: There were men from the Jews who, when they met the companions of the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—or some of them, would say: We are upon your religion.
