349 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan informed us, Salamah narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said, and Muhammad ibn Ja'far ibn al-Zubayr narrated to me: His saying, "The Wise," he said: Wise in His excuse and His proof to His servants.
His saying: "O Adam, inform them of their names"
350 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Sulayman narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Aban narrated to us, he said: I asked Zayd ibn Aslam about His saying, "Inform them of their names." He said: "You are Jibril, you are Mika'il, you are Israfil," until he enumerated all the names, until he reached the crow.
351 - Abu Sa'id ibn Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan narrated to us, Abu Dawud narrated to us, Qays narrated to us from Khusayf, from Mujahid, regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted, "O Adam, inform them of their names," he said: "The name of the dove and the crow, and the name of everything." It was narrated from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, al-Hasan, and Qatadah something similar.
His saying: "And when he had informed them of their names"
352 - Al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan al-Razi narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah al-Harawi narrated to us, Hajjaj ibn Muhammad narrated to us from Ibn Jurayj, from Mujahid: "And when he had informed them of their names," Adam informed the angels of their names, the names of those who possess the names.
His saying the Exalted: "He said, 'Did I not tell you that I know the unseen of the heavens and the earth'"
353 - Al-Hasan ibn Ahmad Abu Fatimah narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bashshar al-Wasiti narrated to us, Surur ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, from 'Abbad ibn Mansur, from al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Hasan al-Basri, he said: Adam began to inform them of their names and said: "This is the name of such and such from the creation of Allah, and this is the name of such and such." So Allah taught Adam from that what they did not know until they knew that he was more knowledgeable than them. He said: "And when he had informed them of their names, He said, 'Did I not tell you that I know the unseen of the heavens and the earth?'"
His saying: "And I know what you reveal and what you were concealing"

354 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Munib narrated to us, Abu Mu'adh al-Fadl ibn Khalid al-Nahwi narrated to us, from 'Ubayd—meaning Ibn Sulayman—from al-Dahhak: He said, Ibn 'Abbas used to say: That is His saying to the angels: "I know the unseen of the heavens and the earth, and I know what you reveal and what you were concealing," meaning what Iblis concealed within himself of arrogance.
