His saying, the Exalted: "He wraps the night over the day."
18375 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "He wraps the night over the day," he said: "He carries the night."
His saying, the Exalted: "Creation after creation."
18376 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "Creation after creation," he said: "A clot, then a lump of flesh, then bones in three darknesses." He said: "The darkness of the belly, the darkness of the womb, and the darkness of the placenta."
His saying, the Exalted: "If you disbelieve, then indeed Allah is free from need of you."
18377 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both: "If you disbelieve, then indeed Allah is free from need of you," meaning the disbelievers whom Allah did not wish to purify their hearts so that they would say: 'There is no god but Allah.' Then He said: "And He does not approve for His servants disbelief." They are His devoted servants about whom He said: "Indeed, over My servants you have no authority," so He bound them to the testimony that there is no god but Allah and made it beloved to them.
His saying, the Exalted: "Is one who is devoutly obedient during periods of the night, prostrating and standing, fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord?"
18378 - Umar ibn Shaybah narrated to us, from Ubaydah al-Numayri, Abu Khalaf Abdullah ibn Isa al-Khazzaz narrated to us, Yahya al-Bakka' narrated to us that he heard Ibn Umar recite: "Is one who is devoutly obedient during periods of the night, prostrating and standing, fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord?" Ibn Umar said: "That is Uthman ibn Affan, may Allah be pleased with him." Ibn Umar only said that because of the abundance of the prayer of the Commander of the Faithful, Uthman, during the night and his recitation, to the extent that he would sometimes recite the entire Quran in one rak'ah, as narrated by Abu Ubaydah from him, may Allah be pleased with him. And the poet said.

سُورَةُ الزُّمَرِ

قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: يُكَوِّرُ اللَّيْلَ عَلَى النَّهَارِ
١٨٣٧٥ - عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ، عَنْهُمَا فِي قَوْلِهِ: يُكَوِّرُ اللَّيْلَ عَلَى النَّهَارِ قَالَ: يَحْمِلُ اللَّيْلَ «١» .
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: خَلْقًا مِنْ بَعْدِ خَلْقٍ
١٨٣٧٦ - عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا فِي قَوْلِهِ: خَلْقًا مِنْ بَعْدِ خَلْقٍ قَالَ:
عَلَقَةً ثُمَّ مُضْغَةً، ثُمَّ عِظَامًا فِي ظُلُمَاتٍ ثَلاثٍ قَالَ: ظُلْمَةُ الْبَطْنِ، وَظُلْمَةُ الرَّحِمِ، وَظُلْمَةُ المْشَيِمَةِ «٢» .
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: إِنْ تَكْفُرُوا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ، عَنكُمْ
١٨٣٧٧ - عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا إِنَّ تَكْفُرُوا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ، عَنكُمْ يَعَنِي الْكُفَّارَ الَّذِينَ لَمْ يُرِدِ اللَّهُ أَنْ يُطَهِّرَ قُلُوبَهُمْ فَيَقُولُونَ لَا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ: وَلا يَرْضَى لِعِبَادِهِ الْكُفْرَ وَهُمْ عِبَادُهُ الْمُخْلِصُونَ الَّذِينَ قَالَ: إِنَّ عِبَادِي لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَانٌ فَأَلْزَمَهُمْ شِهَادَةَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلا اللَّهُ وَحَبَبَهَا إِلَيْهِمْ «٣» .
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: أَمَّنْ هُوَ قَانِتٌ آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ سَاجِدًا وَقَائِمًا يحذر الآخرة ويرجوا رَحْمَةَ رَبِّهِ
١٨٣٧٨ - حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ شَيْبَةَ، عَنْ عُبَيْدَةَ النُّمَيْرِيِّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَلْفٍ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عِيسَى الْخُزَّازُ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى الْبَكَّاءُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ قَرَأَ: أَمَّنْ هُوَ قَانِتٌ آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ ساجدا وقائما يحذر الآخرة ويرجوا رَحْمَةَ رَبِّهِ قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ: ذَاكَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ. وَإِنَّمَا قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ ذَلِكَ، لِكَثْرَةِ صَلاةِ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عُثْمَانَ بِاللَّيْلِ وَقِرَاءَتِهِ حَتَّى إِنَّهُ رُبَّمَا قَرَأَ الْقُرْآنَ فِي رَكْعَةٍ، كَمَا رَوَى ذَلِكَ أَبُو عبيدة، عنه رضي الله عنه وقال الشاعر.
