My father narrated to me: 'Ali ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Muslim ibn Subayh, Abu al-Duha, from Ibn Abbas: That he said to Ibn al-Azraq: "Indeed, the Day of Resurrection will come upon people, during which they will not speak, offer excuses, or talk until they are given permission. Then they will be given permission, and they will argue. The denier will deny his polytheism toward Allah, so they will swear to Him just as they swear to you. So Allah will send against them, when they deny, witnesses from themselves: their skins, their sights, their hands, and their feet, and He will seal their mouths. Then He will open the mouths for them, and the limbs will argue, saying: 'Allah, who has made all things speak, has made us speak; and He created you the first time, and to Him you are returned.' Then the tongues will confess after the denial."

18457 - My father narrated to us, Suwayd ibn Sa'id narrated to us, Yahya ibn Sulaym al-Ta'ifi narrated to us, from Ibn Khuthaym, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah, who said: When the immigrants of the sea returned to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, he said: "Will you not tell me about the wonders you saw in the land of Abyssinia?"

Some young men among them said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah. While we were sitting, an old woman from among their old women passed by us, carrying a vessel of water on her head. She passed by a youth among them, and he placed one of his hands between her palms and pushed her. She fell onto her knees and her vessel broke. When she stood up, she turned to him and said: 'You will come to know, O traitor, when Allah places the Throne, gathers the first and the last, and the hands and feet speak of what they used to earn! You will come to know what my affair and your affair will be in His presence tomorrow!'" He said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "She spoke the truth, she spoke the truth! How does Allah sanctify a people from whose strong the right of their weak is not taken?"

His saying, the Almighty: "Do not listen to this Qur'an and make noise during it that perhaps you will overcome."

18458 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, who said: "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, while he was in Mecca, would raise his voice when he recited the Qur'an. The polytheists would drive the people away from him and say: 'Do not listen to this Qur'an and make noise during it that perhaps you will overcome.' When the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, would lower his reading, those who were obligated to hear the Qur'an could not hear it, so Allah revealed: 'And do not recite [too] loudly in your prayer, nor recite silently.'"

18459 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "and make noise during it," he said:
