He said: When they manifest hypocrisy, [it is] the sunnah (established way) of God regarding those who passed away before. He means: Such is the sunnah of God regarding them when they manifest hypocrisy (1).
17793 - From Malik ibn Dinar, may God be pleased with him, he said: I asked Ikrimah, may God be pleased with him, about the saying of God: "If the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is disease do not cease," he said: They are the perpetrators of immoral acts.
17794 - From Ata, may God be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "and those in whose hearts is disease," he said: They are the perpetrators of immoral acts (2).
His saying, the Exalted: "and those in whose hearts is disease"
17795 - From Ata, may God be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "and those in whose hearts is disease," he said: They were believers, but they had in their own selves [the desire] to commit adultery (3).
17796 - From al-Suddi, may God be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "If the hypocrites... do not cease," he said: Hypocrisy was of three types. A hypocrisy like that of Abd Allah ibn Nabatl and Malik ibn Da'is; these were prominent individuals among the Ansar. They used to love to commit adultery, protecting themselves by that. And "those in whose hearts is disease," he said: [They are those who] if they found adultery, they would do it, and if they did not find it, they would not seek it. And a hypocrisy [where they] force women by compulsion, and they are those who used to force women. "We will surely incite you against them," he says: We will make you know about them. Then He said: "Accursed." Then He detailed it in the verse: "Wherever they are found," [meaning] they practice this act of forcing women, "they are seized and killed in a thorough killing." Al-Suddi, may God be pleased with him, said: This is a ruling in the Quran that is not being acted upon. If a man or more than that were to track a woman and overcome her against her will and commit indecency with her, the ruling regarding them, other than flogging and stoning, is that they should be seized and their necks should be struck. "The sunnah of God regarding those who passed away before"—thus it was done with the nations that have passed, "and you will never find in the sunnah of God any change." He said: Whoever forces a woman against her will and overcomes her, and is killed [for it], then there is no blood money (diyah) for his killer, because he is a transgressor (4).
17797 - From Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with both of them, regarding His saying: "We will surely incite you against them," he said: We will empower you over them (5).
