Surah al-Mujadilah (The Pleading Woman)
58
His saying, the Almighty: "Allah has heard"
18839 - Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, al-A'mash narrated to us, from Tamim b. Salamah, from 'Urwah, from 'Aishah, who said: "Praise be to Allah whose hearing encompasses all voices. The woman who pleads (al-mujadilah) came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, speaking to him, while I was in the corner of the house and could not hear what she was saying. Then Allah, the Exalted and Almighty, revealed: 'Allah has heard the speech of the one who pleads with you concerning her husband...' until the end of the verse." (1)
18840 - From al-A'mash, from Tamim b. Salamah, from 'Urwah, from 'Aishah, that she said: "Blessed is He whose hearing encompasses everything. I was hearing the speech of Khawlah bint Tha'labah, though some of it was hidden from me, while she was complaining about her husband to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saying: 'O Messenger of Allah, he consumed my youth, and I bore him children until my age advanced and my childbearing ceased; he has declared zihar upon me. O Allah, I complain to You.'" She (Aishah) said: "She had not yet left when Jibril (Gabriel) descended with this verse: 'Allah has heard the speech of the one who pleads with you concerning her husband,' and she said: 'Her husband was Aws b. al-Samit.'" (2)
18841 - My father narrated to us, Musa b. Isma'il Abu Salamah narrated to us, Jarir—meaning Ibn Hazim—narrated to us, from Ibn Zayd, who said: "'Umar b. al-Khattab met a woman named Khawlah while he was traveling with the people. She stopped him, so he stopped for her, drew near to her, and inclined his head toward her, placing his hands on her shoulders until she finished her need and departed. A man said to him: 'O Commander of the Faithful, you have kept the men of Quraysh waiting for this old woman?' He replied: 'Woe to you, do you know who this is?' He said: 'No.' He said: 'This is a woman whose complaint Allah heard from above seven heavens. This is Khawlah bint Tha'labah. By Allah, if she had not turned away from me until nightfall, I would not have departed until her need was met.'" (3)
