Surah al-Hashr
59
His saying, the Almighty: "Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth glorifies Allah."
18849 - My father narrated to us, saying: Abdullah ibn Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, narrated to us, saying: al-Layth narrated to me, from Aqil, from Ibn Shihab, who said: Urwah ibn al-Zubayr informed me, saying: Then the battle of Banu al-Nadir took place, and they were a faction of the Jews, six months after the battle of Badr. Their dwellings were in a section of Medina. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, besieged them until they surrendered on the condition of expulsion (al-jala'), with the stipulation that they could take whatever their camels could carry of wealth and goods, except for the al-halaqah, which is weapons. So the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, expelled them—it was said [they went to] al-Sham. He said: And the al-jala' is that it had been written for them in verses of the Torah, and they were from a tribe that had not been struck by expulsion before what the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, imposed upon them. And Allah revealed concerning them: "Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth glorifies Allah..." up to His saying: "...and to disgrace the defiantly disobedient." (1)
His saying, the Almighty: "It is He who expelled the ones who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture from their homes at the first gathering (al-hashr)."
18850 - My father narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abi Umar narrated to us, saying: Sufyan narrated to us, from Abi Sa'id, from Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas, who said: Whoever doubts that the first gathering (al-hashr) is here—meaning al-Sham—let him recite this verse: "It is He who expelled the ones who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture from their homes at the first gathering." He said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to them: "Go out." They said: "To where?" He said: "To the land of the gathering (al-mahshar)." (2)
18851 - From al-Hasan, who said: When the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, expelled Banu al-Nadir, he said: "This is the first gathering, and I am following in the wake." (3)
