His saying, the Almighty: "Like the charred remains of a garden."
18949 - From Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "Like the charred remains," he said: "Like the black night."(1)

18951 - From Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "The most moderate of them said," he said: "The most just among them."(3)
His saying, the Almighty: "Why do you not exalt [Allah]?"
18952 - From al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "Did I not say to you, 'Why do you not exalt [Allah]?'" he said: "Their exception [to their oaths] in that time was the tasbih (exaltation of Allah)."(4)

18953 - By way of 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, that he was asked about His saying: "The Day when the shin will be laid bare," he said: "If something in the Qur'an is hidden from you, then seek it in poetry, for it is the register of the Arabs. Have you not heard the saying of the poet:
'Be patient, 'Anaq, for it is an enduring evil... Your people have set for me the striking of necks, And the war has risen for us upon a shin [i.e., a state of intensity].'(6)"
18954 - Ibn 'Abbas said: "This is a day of anguish and intensity."(7)
18956 - From Ibn 'Abbas, regarding "The Day when the shin will be laid bare," he said: "It is the severe, horrifying matter from the terror of the Day of Resurrection."(8)
