His (Exalted is He) saying: "The runners, the sweepers (al-jawārī al-kunnas)."

19154 - By various chains from Ibn Masʿūd regarding His saying: "By those that recede, the runners, the sweepers," he said: "They are the wild cows (antelopes)."

19155 - By the chain of Saʿīd b. Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās, regarding "the runners, the sweepers," he said: "The cows that sweep/retreat into the shade."

His (Exalted is He) saying: "And the night when it departs (ʿasʿasa)."

19156 - By various chains from Ibn ʿAbbās regarding His saying: "And the night when it departs," he said: "When it turns back/recedes." And regarding "And the morning when it breathes," he said: "When the day appears at the time of the break of dawn."

19157 - Abū Saʿīd al-Ashajj and ʿAmr b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Awdī narrated to us, Abū Usāmah narrated to us, from Mujālid, from an elder from Bajīlah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, regarding "When the sun is wrapped up," he said: "Allāh will wrap up the sun, the moon, and the stars on the Day of Resurrection in the sea, and Allāh will send a westerly wind that will kindle it into fire."

19158 - My father narrated to us, Abū Ṣāliḥ narrated to us, Muʿāwiyah b. Ṣāliḥ narrated to me, from Ibn Yazīd b. Abī Maryam, from his father, that the Messenger of Allāh (may Allāh bless him and grant him peace) said regarding the saying of Allāh: "When the sun is wrapped up," he said: "It will be wrapped up in Hell."

19159 - ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭalḥah said, from Ibn ʿAbbās, regarding "And when the stars fall (inkadarat)," meaning: they will be changed. And Yazīd b. Abī Maryam said, from the Prophet (may Allāh bless him and grant him peace), regarding "And when the stars fall," he said: "They will fall into Hell, and everyone who was worshipped other than Allāh will be in Hell, except for what concerns ʿĪsā (Jesus) and his mother; and even if they were pleased to be worshipped, they would have entered it." Ibn ʿAbbās said: "Everything will be gathered, even the fly."
