He said: 'Indeed, this sea is a blessing,' meaning the Roman Sea in the center of the earth. All the rivers flow into it, and the great sea flows into it. At its bottom are wells sealed with copper, and when the Day of Resurrection comes, it will be kindled.'
- From Simāk b. Ḥarb, from al-Nuʿmān b. Bashīr, that ʿUmar addressed the people and recited: 'And when the souls are paired (idhā al-nufūsu zuwwijat),' and said: 'Their pairing means that every faction will be gathered with their faction.' In another narration: 'They are the two men who perform the same deed, so they enter Paradise or Hell with it.'
- From al-Nuʿmān, who said: ʿUmar was asked about the saying of the Exalted: 'And when the souls are paired,' and he said: 'The righteous man is coupled with the righteous man, and the evil man is coupled with the evil man in the Fire. That is the pairing of the souls.'
- From al-Nuʿmān that ʿUmar said to the people: 'What do you say regarding the interpretation of this verse: "And when the souls are paired"?' They remained silent. He said: 'Rather, it is the man who is paired with his counterpart from the people of Paradise, and the man who is paired with his counterpart from the people of the Fire,' then he recited: 'Gather those who committed injustice and their pairs.'
- ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn b. al-Junayd narrated to us, Aḥmad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us, my father narrated to me, from his father, from Ashʿath, from Jaʿfar, from Saʿīd b. Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: 'A river flows from the base of the Throne, of water [flowing] between the two 'Sahīḥatayn' (two sound entities/boundaries), and the distance between them is forty years. From it, every creation will sprout, whether human, bird, or beast. If someone who had known them before were to pass by them, he would recognize them as they have sprouted upon the earth. Then the souls will be sent forth and reunited with the bodies; that is the saying of the Almighty: "And when the souls are paired."
- My father narrated to us, Muslim b. Ibrāhīm narrated to us, Qurrah narrated to us, saying: I heard al-Ḥasan saying: 'It was said: "O Messenger of Allāh, who is in Paradise?" He replied: "The girl buried alive is in Paradise."
- Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ẓahrānī narrated to me, Ḥafṣ b. ʿUmar al-ʿAdanī narrated to us, al-Ḥakīm b. Abān narrated to us, from ʿIkrimah, who said: Ibn ʿAbbās said: 'The children of the polytheists are in Paradise, and whoever claims they are in the Fire has lied.' Allāh the Almighty says: "And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked, for what sin she was killed." Ibn ʿAbbās said: 'She is the one who was buried.'
