His statement, the Almighty: "And when the seas are made to gush forth." His statement: "And when the graves are scattered."

19172 - From Ibn ʿAbbās regarding "And when the seas are made to gush forth," he said: "Some of them into others." And regarding "And when the graves are scattered," he said: "They are dug up."

His statement, the Almighty: "Each soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it] and left behind."

19173 - From Ibn Masʿūd regarding His statement: "Each soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it] and left behind," he said: "What it has brought forth of good, and what it left behind of a righteous sunnah (tradition) that is practiced after him; for he shall have the like of the reward of those who practice it without anything being diminished from their rewards. Or [it refers to] an evil sunnah that is practiced after him; for upon him shall be the like of the sin of those who practice it, and nothing is diminished from their sins."

His statement, the Almighty: "O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous?"

19174 - From ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb that he recited this verse: "O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous?" He said: "By Allāh, his ignorance has deceived him."

Ibn al-Mundhir reported [19175] from ʿIkrimah regarding "O mankind, what has deceived you [concerning your Lord]"—say: "Ubayy b. Khalaf."

His statement, the Almighty: "In whatever form He willed has He assembled you."

19176 - Muṭahhar b. al-Haytham narrated to us, Mūsā b. ʿAlī b. Rabāḥ narrated to us, my father narrated to us from my grandfather, that the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said to him: "What was born to you?" He said: "O Messenger of Allāh, what could possibly be born to me? Either a boy or a girl." He said: "And whom does it resemble?" He said: "O Messenger of Allāh, whom could it possibly resemble? Either its father or its mother." The Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said at that: "Cease. Do not say such things. For when the drop of fluid settles in the womb, Allāh brings forth for it every lineage between it and Ādam. Have you not read this verse in the Book of Allāh: 'In whatever form He willed has He assembled you'?" He said: "He fashioned you."

His statement, the Almighty: "And indeed, [appointed] over you are keepers, noble and recording."

19177 - My father narrated to us, ʿAlī b. Muḥammad al-Ṭanāfisī narrated to us, Wakīʿ narrated to us, Sufyān and Misʿar narrated to us, from ʿAlqamah b. Marthad, from Mujāhid, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (may the peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: "Honor the noble recording angels who do not depart from you except in two states: [during] janābah (sexual impurity) and defecation. So if one of you performs ghusl (full ablution), let him cover himself with the bulk of a wall, or with his riding camel, or let his brother cover him."
