- On the authority of Mujāhid regarding "the even and the odd," he said: Every creation of Allāh is even—the sky, the earth, the land, the sea, humans, jinn, the sun, and the moon, and the like are all even; and the odd is Allāh alone. (1)

- On the authority of Mujāhid regarding "the even and the odd," he said: Allāh is the Odd, and His creation is the even; [such as] the male and the female. (2)

- On the authority of ʿAṭāʾ regarding "the even and the odd," he said: They are the days of the rituals of ʿArafah and al-Aḍḥā; they are the even, and the night of al-Aḍḥā is the odd. (3)

- On the authority of ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Zubayr that he was asked about "the even and the odd," and he said: The even is the word of Allāh: "But whoever hastens [to depart] in two days, there is no sin upon him," and the odd is the third day. In another wording: The even is the middle days of Tashrīq, and the odd is the last of the days of Tashrīq. (4)

- Muḥammad ibn ʿĀmir ibn Ibrāhīm al-Aṣbahānī narrated to us, my father narrated to me from al-Nuʿmān—meaning Ibn ʿAbd al-Salām—from Abū Saʿīd ibn ʿAwf; he narrated to us in Mecca, saying: I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Zubayr addressing the people, then a man stood up to him and said: O Commander of the Believers, inform me about "the even and the odd." He said: The even is the word of Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic: "But whoever hastens [to depart] in two days, there is no sin upon him," and the odd is His saying: "And whoever delays [until the third]—there is no sin upon him." (5)

- Abū Saʿīd al-Ashajj narrated to us, ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Mūsā narrated to us from Isrāʾīl from Abū Yaḥyā from Mujāhid regarding: "And [by] the even and the odd," he said: The even is the pair, and the odd is Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic. (6)

- On the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās regarding "the even and the odd," he said: The even is the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Naḥr), and the odd is the Day of ʿArafah. (7)

- On the authority of Mujāhid regarding His statement: "And [by] the even and the odd," he said: Everything Allāh created is even: the sky, the earth, the land, the sea, the jinn, the humans, the sun, and the moon. Mujāhid followed in this what they mentioned regarding His statement, the Exalted: "And of all things We created two mates, that you may remember," meaning: so that you may know that the Creator of the pairs is One. (8)
