19411 - On the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās regarding "Then We return him to the lowest of the low," he says: To old age and its weakness. So when he becomes weak and old [and unable] to work, the likes of the reward for what he used to do in his youth is written for him.

His saying, the Almighty: "Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds, for them is a reward that is not interrupted."

19412 - On the authority of ʿIkrimah regarding "By the fig," he said: It is this fig. "And the olive," he said: It is this olive. "And [by] Mount Sīnīn," he said: The Mount is the mountain, and Sīnīn is the beautiful [one] in the Abyssinian [language]. "And this secure city," he said: Makkah. "We have certainly created man in the best of stature," he said: Youth and strength. "Then We return him to the lowest of the low," he said: He is returned to the most decrepit [stage of] life. "Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds, for them is a reward that is not interrupted," he said: Allah fulfills his reward and his deed, so He does not hold him accountable when he is returned to the most decrepit [stage of] life. In another wording, he said: Whoever among them is returned to the most decrepit [stage of] life, there runs for him of reward the likes of what he used to do in his health and youth, and that is the reward that is not interrupted. He said: And He does not remind them [as a favor] of it.

19413 - On the authority of Abū al-ʿĀliyah regarding His saying: "We have certainly created man in the best of stature," he says: In the best of forms. "Then We return him to the lowest of the low," he said: In the Fire, in the worst of forms.

His saying, the Almighty: "So what yet causes you to deny the Recompense?"

19414 - Aḥmad b. Sinān narrated to us, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us, from Sufyān, from Manṣūr, who said: I said to Mujāhid, "So what yet causes you to deny the Recompense?" Does it refer to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him?

He said: Allah forbid! It refers to man.

19415 - On the authority of Manṣūr, he said: I said to Mujāhid, "So what yet causes you to deny the Recompense?" and "Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?" Do they refer to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him? He said: Allah forbid, it only refers to man.
