His saying, the Almighty: "Those who disbelieved from among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists were not to be separated (munfakkīn)."

19430 - On the authority of Qatādah regarding: "Those who disbelieved from among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists were not to be separated," he said: They would not cease from what they were in until the clear proof (al-bayyinah) came to them, meaning this Qurʾān. "A Messenger from Allah, reciting purified scriptures," he said: He mentions the Qurʾān with the best of mentions and praises it with the best of praise. "And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth." The inclination to truth (al-ḥunayfiyyah) is circumcision, the prohibition of [marrying] mothers, daughters, sisters, paternal aunts, and maternal aunts, and the rites of pilgrimage. "And [to] establish prayer and give zakah. And that is the correct religion." He said: It is that with which Allah sent His Messenger, which He ordained for Himself, and which He was pleased with.

His saying, the Almighty: "And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion..." to the end of the verse.

19430 - On the authority of ʿUqayl, he said: I said to al-Zuhrī: Do you claim that prayer and zakah are not part of faith? He then recited: "And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and give zakah. And that is the correct religion." Do you consider this to be part of faith or not?

His saying, the Almighty: "Separated (munfakkīn)."

19431 - On the authority of Mujāhid regarding "separated (munfakkīn)," he said: Ceasing. They were not going to believe until the truth became clear to them.

His saying, the Almighty: "Indeed, they who have believed and done righteous deeds - those are the best of creatures."

19432 - On the authority of Abū Hurayrah, he said: Are you amazed by the status of the angels with Allah? By the One in Whose hand is my soul, the status of the believing servant with Allah on the Day of Resurrection is greater than the status of an angel. Read, if you wish: "Indeed, they who have believed and done righteous deeds - those are the best of creatures."
