Sūrat al-Māʿūn
107 [19492]
My father narrated to us, ʿAffān narrated to us, Ḥammād b. Salamah narrated to us, from ʿĀṣim, from Zirr, from ʿAbd Allāh, who said: "Al-māʿūn" refers to borrowed items: the pot, the scale, and the bucket. (1)
His saying: "Have you seen him who denies the Recompense?"
19493- From al-Ḥasan regarding His saying: "Have you seen him who denies the Recompense?" He said: The disbeliever. (2)
19494- From Ibn ʿAbbās regarding His saying: "Have you seen him who denies the Recompense?" He said: He denies the judgment of Allāh. "So that is the one who drives away the orphan," he said: He pushes him away from his right. (3)
His saying: "So woe to those who pray."
19495- From Ibn ʿAbbās regarding His saying: "So woe to those who pray, [who are] heedless of their prayer," he said: They are the hypocrites; they show off to people with their prayer when they are present, and they abandon it when they are absent, and they withhold from them the borrowed items out of hatred for them, and this is al-māʿūn. (4)
His saying: "Who are heedless of their prayer."
19496- From Saʿīd b. Abī Waqqāṣ, he said: I asked the Prophet (ﷺ) about His saying: "Who are heedless of their prayer," he said: They are those who delay the prayer beyond its time. (5)
19497- From Masrūq regarding His saying: "Heedless of their prayer," he said: They waste its appointed time. (6)
19498- From Mujāhid regarding His saying: "Heedless of their prayer," he said: They are unmindful of it. (7)
19499- From Abū al-ʿĀliyah regarding His saying: "Heedless of their prayer," he said: It is the one who prays and looks like this and like that—meaning, he looks to his right and to his left. (8)
