الترجمة · EN

17740 - From Ibn Shihab, may God be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "You can postpone whom you will of them," he said: This is a matter which God placed in the hands of His Prophet (peace be upon him) regarding the disciplining of his wives, so that it might be more comforting to their eyes and more satisfying to their lives. We do not know that the Messenger of God (peace be upon him) postponed any of them or set any of them aside after he had given them the choice and they chose him (1).

17741 - From Mujahid, may God be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "You can postpone whom you will of them," he said: You set aside whom you wish of them and do not come to her, without divorce. "And you may receive whom you will," he said: Bring her back to yourself. "And whomsoever you desire of those whom you have set aside" to receive her to yourself if you wish (2).

17742 - From Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with them both, regarding "turji": he said: you delay.

17743 - From Mujahid, may God be pleased with him, he said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) would not divorce; he would set aside (3).

17744 - From Aisha, may God be pleased with her: The Messenger of God (peace be upon him) used to ask permission regarding the day of the wife among us after this verse was revealed: "You can postpone whom you will of them." I said to her: "What would you say to him?" She said: "I used to say to him: 'If that is up to me, then I do not want to favor anyone over you.'"

The saying of the Almighty: "It is not lawful for you (to marry other) women after this."

17745 - From Ziyad, may God be pleased with him, he said: I said to my father, may God be pleased with him: "What do you think, if the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him) were to die, would it be lawful for him to marry?" He said: "And what would prevent him from that!" I said: "His saying: 'It is not lawful for you (to marry other) women after this.'" He said: "He only made lawful for him a type of women and described a description for him, saying: 'O Prophet, indeed We have made lawful to you your wives' up to his saying: 'and a believing woman,' then he said: 'It is not lawful for you (to marry other) women after this description' (4)."

17746 - From Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with them both, he said: "The Messenger of God (peace be upon him) prohibited the types of women, except for those who were believing migrant women. He said: 'It is not lawful for you (to marry other) women after this, nor (is it lawful) for you to exchange them for (other) wives, even if their beauty pleases you, except what your right hand possesses.'"
