The disbeliever departed and left him. He said: When the believer saw that he would not turn toward him, he returned and left him, the believer living in a time of hardship, and the disbeliever living in a time of prosperity. He said: When it is the Day of Resurrection and Allah causes the believer to enter Paradise, he passes by, and behold, he is in a land with palm trees, fruits, and rivers, so he says: 'To whom does this belong?' It is said: 'This is for you.' He says: 'Glory be to Allah! Has it reached such a level from the merit of my deeds that I am rewarded with the likes of this?' He said: Then he passes by, and behold, he is among a retinue whose number cannot be counted, so he says: 'To whom does this belong?' It is said: 'These are for you.' He says: 'Glory be to Allah! Has it reached such a level from the merit of my deeds that I am rewarded with the likes of this?' He said: Then he passes by, and behold, he is at a dome of hollow red jacinth, in which is a fair, wide-eyed maiden, and he says: 'To whom does this belong?' It is said: 'This is for you.' He says: 'Glory be to Allah! Has it reached such a level from the merit of my deeds that I am rewarded with the likes of this?' He said: Then the believer remembers his disbelieving partner and says: 'I had a companion who would say: "Are you indeed of those who believe? When we have died and become dust and bones, are we to be recompensed?"' He said: 'Paradise is high, and the Fire is falling.' He said: So Allah shows him his partner in the middle of Hell, among the people of the Fire. When the believer sees him, he recognizes him and says: 'By Allah, you nearly ruined me! And were it not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been among those brought forth. Then, are we not to die, except for our first death, and we will not be punished? Indeed, this is the great success. For the like of this let the workers work,' with the likes of what He has bestowed upon him. He said: The believer then remembers the hardship he went through in the world, and he does not recall any hardship he went through in the world that was more severe to him than death.
His saying, the Almighty: "Then, are we not to die..."
18192 - Abu Abdullah al-Tehrani narrated to us, Hafs ibn Umar al-Adani narrated to us, al-Hakam ibn Aban narrated to us, from Ikrimah, who said: Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said regarding the saying of Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, to the people of Paradise: "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: His saying: "in satisfaction," meaning: they will not die therein. Thus, at that, they said: "Then, are we not to die, except for our first death, and we will not be punished?"
His saying, the Almighty: "Are you looking down?"
18193 - From Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding His saying: "Are you looking down?" He says: Looking down to him, so that I may see him in the Fire.
