from the Children of Israel. They were afflicted by humiliation and the victory of an enemy, so they requested permission for jihad and that they be commanded to do so. When they were commanded, most of them turned away and only a few were patient, so Allah granted them victory. In the report, it is mentioned that these people mentioned are those who were caused to die and then brought back to life, and Allah knows best.

463: 2446: Sham'un (Simon): 1: See: Tafsir Ibn Kathir: (1/300).

: 2447: Do not kill: 2: His saying: "'asaytum" with fatha and kasra are two linguistic dialects, and with the latter Nafi' read it, while the others read it with the former, which is the most well-known. Abu Hatim said: There is no basis for the kasra, although al-Hasan and Talhah read it that way.

464: 2450: Obligated: 1: Tafsir al-Qurtubi: (1/1052).

: 2451: Two thousand: 2: Tafsir Mujahid: (1/113).

: 2452: A king: 3: Al-Qurtubi said in his "Tafsir" (2/1053): Meaning He answered you regarding what you asked for, and Talut (Saul) was a tanner. It is also said: a leatherworker. It is also said: a muleteer. He was knowledgeable, and that is why Allah raised him above them as will follow. He was from the tribe of Benjamin and was not from the tribe of Prophethood nor the tribe of Kingship. Prophethood was in the tribe of Levi, and Kingship was in the tribe of Judah, which is why they objected.

465: 2455: Wealth: 1: Ibn Kathir said regarding the saying of the Almighty: "And he has not been given abundance of wealth": Meaning: Moreover, he is poor and has no wealth to support the kingship.

: 2456: And physical stature: 2: Ibn Kathir said: Meaning: And he is, with that, more knowledgeable than you, and more noble, and of better form than you, and of greater strength and patience in war and more knowledgeable of it. Meaning: more complete in knowledge and physical stature than you. And from here, it is appropriate for a king to be a person of knowledge, good form, and intense strength in his body.
