: 2713: And shredded them: 2: Tafsir Mujahid: (1/116).

514: 2723: Allah: 1: This heading was omitted from the "Original" (al-asl), and thus we have established it to align with the formatting of the book.

: 2724: A grain: 2: Imam Ahmad said: Ziyad ibn al-Rabi' Abu Kharash narrated to us, Wasil, the freed slave of Ibn 'Uyaynah, narrated to us, from Bashar ibn Abi Sayf al-Jurmi, from 'Iyad ibn Ghutayf who said: We entered upon Abu Ubaydah to visit him during an illness that afflicted his side, and his wife, Tuhayfah, was sitting by his head. We said, "How did Abu Ubaydah pass the night?"

She said: "By Allah, he passed the night with a reward." Abu Ubaydah said: "I did not pass the night with a reward." He was facing the wall with his face, then he turned to the people with his face and said: "Will you not ask me about what I said?" They said, "We were not so impressed by what you said that we would ask you about it." He said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: 'Whoever spends an expenditure that is superior in the path of Allah, then it is [rewarded by] seven hundred fold; and whoever spends on himself and his family, or visits the sick, or removes an obstacle, then the good deed is ten times its like; and fasting is a shield as long as one does not tear it; and whoever is tested by Allah the Almighty with an affliction in his body, it is a penance for him.'"
