This case occurred during the time of the Commander of the Believers, Umar. He awarded the husband his one-half, the mother her one-sixth, and designated the one-third for the maternal half-siblings. The full siblings then said to him: "O Commander of the Believers, suppose our father was a donkey, are we not all from the same mother?" So he included them in the distribution, and this inclusion was confirmed by Uthman.
