He said: Abdullah ibn Rabah wrote to me, narrating from Abdullah ibn 'Amr, who said: I migrated to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, one day, and while we were sitting, two men disagreed about a verse and their voices rose. He said: "The nations before you only perished because of their disagreement regarding the Scripture."

His saying: "They strike the pebbles" means they strike the ground with them, like the action of one who is anxious and contemplative.
