and they stood in the place of their companions, facing the enemy. Then, those [the second group] came, and the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) prayed with them, then those completed one rak'ah, and those [the others] completed one rak'ah.” Tafsir al-Qurtubi: (3/1636).

1058: 5922: You suffer (ta'lamun): 1: Al-Qurtubi said in the exegesis of this verse: meaning you suffer from the wounds that have afflicted you, for they also suffer from what afflicts them, but there is a distinction: which is that you hope for the reward of Allah, while they do not hope for it, and that is because whoever does not believe in Allah does not hope for anything from Allah.
1059: 5932: Allah showed you (araka Allah): 1: Ibn Kathir said: Those who went from the scholars of legal theory (usul) argued by this that he (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was permitted to judge by ijtihad according to this verse, and by what was established from Hisham ibn 'Urwah, from his father, from Zaynab bint Umm Salamah, from Umm Salamah, that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) heard a clamor of disputants at the door of his chamber, so he went out to them and said: “Verily, I am only a human being, and I only judge according to what I hear. It may be that one of you is more eloquent in his plea than another, so I judge in his favor. Whoever I judge in his favor regarding the right of a Muslim, it is only a piece of Hellfire, so let him take it or leave it.” Al-Masir (2/191) and Ibn Kathir (1/550).
