  1. The Harm (Al-Dirar): 2: The scholars of exegesis said: The tribe of Banu 'Amr ibn 'Awf built the Quba' Mosque and sent a message to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) requesting that he come to them. He came to them and prayed in it. Their brethren, the tribe of Banu Ghanm ibn 'Awf, envied them and said: "Let us build a mosque and send to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) so he may come to us and pray for us just as he prayed in the mosque of our brethren, and let Abu 'Amir pray in it when he arrives from the Levant." They came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while he was preparing for the expedition to Tabuk and said: "O Messenger of Allah, we have built a mosque for those in need, the afflicted, and for rainy nights, and we would like you to pray for us in it and invoke blessing." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied: "I am currently on a journey and in a state of preoccupation, but if we return, we will come to you and pray for you in it."

When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) returned from Tabuk, they came to him, having already finished building it and having prayed the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday prayers in it. He called for his garment to put it on and go to them, but the Quran was revealed to him regarding the news of the Mosque of Harm (the Mosque of Mischief). So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) summoned Malik ibn al-Dukhshum, Ma'n ibn 'Adi, 'Amir ibn al-Sakan, and Wahshi, the killer of Hamzah, and said: "Go to this mosque, whose people are oppressors, and tear it down and burn it." They went out quickly, and Malik ibn al-Dukhshum brought a burning torch from his house. They proceeded and burned the mosque and tore it down. Those who built it were twelve men.
