1905: 10089. They were left behind (Khullifu): 1: Al-Qurtubi said in the interpretation of this verse: It is said: Regarding repentance, from Mujahid and Abu Malik. Qatada said: Regarding the battle of Tabuk. It was narrated from Muhammad ibn Zayd that the meaning of "Khullifu" is: They were left behind; because the meaning of "I left someone behind" (khallaftu fulanan) is: I left him and parted from him while he sat back from that which I arose to do.

'Ikrimah ibn Khalid read it as "Khullifu", meaning: They remained behind the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace. It was narrated from Ja'far ibn Muhammad that he read it as "Khalafuhu" (they opposed him). It is also said: "Khullifu" means: They were postponed, so their excuse was accepted, and the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—delayed these three until the Qur'an was revealed concerning them.

1906: 10098. And his companions (wa-ashabuhu): 1: Ibn Kathir said in the interpretation of this verse: That is: Be truthful and adhere to truthfulness so that you may be among its people and be saved from destruction, and so that He may grant you relief and a way out from your affairs. Imam Ahmad said: Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, al-A'mash narrated to us, from Shaqiq, from 'Abd Allah—who is Ibn Mas'ud—may Allah be pleased with him—who said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said: "Adhere to truthfulness, for truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. A man continues to tell the truth and strives for truthfulness until he is recorded before Allah
