: 11170. Behind them: 2: Ibn Kathir said regarding the interpretation of this verse: meaning, you cast it behind you, neither obeying it nor regarding it with reverence.
2079: 11183. Prostrate: 1: His statement: "Prostrate" (jathimin), meaning: lifeless, motionless. It is mentioned here that a blast came to them; in "Al-A'raf" it is a seismic tremor; and in "Ash-Shu'ara'" it is the punishment of the Day of the Shadow. They are one nation, and these various torments converged upon them on the day of their chastisement; and the text mentions in each context that which is most appropriate to it.
2081: 11195. The place of arrival: 1: Al-Qurtubi said in the interpretation of this verse: Meaning, an evil entry is the place entered, and he did not say "bi'sat" (the feminine form) because the speech refers to the "mawrud" (the arrival place), and it is as if you were saying: "Ni'ma al-manzil daruka" (Excellent is the residence, your house), and "Ni'mat al-manzil daruka" (Excellent is the residence, your house). The "mawrud" is the water that is arrived at, and the place that is arrived at, and it is in the meaning of the passive participle.
: 11198. And the gift/support: 2: He also said regarding the Almighty's saying: "An evil gift is the gift bestowed": Al-Kisa'i and Abu 'Ubaydah reported: "Rafadtu-hu arfiduhu rifdan," meaning: I assisted him and gave to him. The name of the gift is the "rifd," meaning: an evil gift and assistance. The "rifd" also means the large cup, as stated by Al-Jawhari, and the estimate [of the meaning] is: an evil gift is the gift of the one being given to.
2082: 11204. And mown down: 1: Qatadah said in the interpretation of this verse: The "standing" is that which was empty upon its roofs, and the "mown down" is that which has no trace left. It is also said: The "standing" is the flourishing, and the "mown down" is the ruined, as stated by Ibn Abbas and Mujahid. Mujahid said: "Standing" means empty upon its roofs, and "mown down" means annihilated, meaning reaped like crops when they are harvested.
