and Al-Shafi'i, Ahmad, and Ishaq said: He may take from whomever he wishes until his right is satisfied. This was the opinion of Malik, then he recanted and said: The guarantor is not to be taken unless the debtor becomes insolvent or goes missing, because the one upon whom the right is originally due is more deserving of [being pursued]. Unless he is destitute, then he is taken from the surety, for he is excused in his taking [the debt] in this situation, and this is the opinion of Al-Hasan.

2176: 11825: In the king's law (fi dini al-malik): 1: Ibn Kathir said in the interpretation of this verse: Meaning, he did not have the right to seize him according to the law of Egypt, as stated by Al-Dahhak and others; rather, Allah enabled him to do so only because his brothers had pledged to him what they pledged, and he knew that from their law. Therefore, Allah praised him, saying: "We raise in degrees whom We will."

2177: 11829: Every possessor of knowledge ('alim): 1: Tafsir Ibn Kathir: (2/485).

: 11831: Knows the servants ('ilm al-'ibad): 2: The previous source.

: 11832: And he returns (wa yarji'): 3: The previous source.

: 11834: His brothers (ikhwatuhu): 4: The previous source.

2179: 11837: What you describe (bima tasifun): 1: Tafsir Ibn Kathir: (2/486).

2180: 11840: He says it (yaquluhu): 1: Tafsir Mujahid: (1/319).

2181: 11840: They despaired of him (ya'isu minhu): 1: Tafsir Al-Qurtubi: (2/3470).

: 11851: Rubil: 2: Tafsir Mujahid: (1/319).

2183: 11868: It is donkeys (hiya hamir): 1: Tafsir Mujahid: (1/317).

: 11869: We were in it (kunna fiha): 2: Al-Qurtubi said in the interpretation of this verse: They affirmed their testimony before him through it, and removed the accusation from themselves so that he would not accuse them by their saying "Ask the town," meaning its people; so he omitted [that] and they mean by the town, Egypt. It is also said: A town among its towns where they alighted and from which they bought grain. And it is said the meaning is: "Ask the town" even if it were inanimate, for you are the Prophet of Allah, and He makes the inanimate speak for you and to you; based on this, there is no need for elliptical suppression.
