: 12775: The verse (al-ayah): 4: Jubayr narrated from Al-Dahhak, from Ibn Abbas, regarding His saying, the Exalted: "And do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance." He said: It was revealed regarding Umayyah ibn Khalaf al-Jumahi, because he called the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—to a matter he disliked, which was for the poor to be removed from him and for the elite of the people of Mecca to be brought near. So Allah the Exalted revealed: "And do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance," meaning: one whom We have sealed his heart against Tawhid (monotheism).

: 12781: Excessive (faratan): 3: His saying, the Exalted: "And his affair was excessive (faratan)." It is said: It is from al-tafrit, which is negligence, and presenting inability by abandoning faith. It is also said: It is from al-ifrat, which is exceeding the limit. The people had said: "We are the nobles of Mudar; if we accept Islam, the people will accept Islam," and this was from pride and excessiveness in speech.
