Narrated by al-Hakim (2/330, 567) who said: "Authentic in chain of narration (Sahih al-isnad), and they (al-Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it." Also [narrated by] Ahmad (3/396), Bidayah (1/137), and al-Majma' (7/50), attributing it to Ahmad, al-Bazzar: 8687:::: and al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat"; and the narrators of Ahmad: 8690: The blast (al-sayhah): 2: are the narrators of the Sahih.

Scholars of exegesis said: None of the descendants of Thamud remained except for Salih (peace be upon him) and those who followed him, may Allah be pleased with them. However, a man called Abu Righal was staying in the Haram (the Sacred Precinct) when the affliction struck his people, so nothing touched him. When he went out to the Hill (the land outside the Haram), a stone from the sky came to him and killed him. Ibn Kathir mentioned that this Abu Righal is the father of the Thaqif who used to reside in Ta'if. 'Abd al-Razzaq reported from Ma'mar: Isma'il bin Umayyah informed me that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed by the grave of Abu Righal and said: "Do you know who this is?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "This is the grave of Abu Righal, a man from Thamud who was in the Sacred Precinct of Allah, so the Sacred Precinct of Allah protected him from the punishment of Allah. But when he went out, what befell his people befell him, so he was buried here. A branch of gold was buried with him." So the people went down, hastened to it with their swords, searched for it, and extracted the branch."
