8863: And the locusts (wa-al-jarad): 2: Ibn Kathir said: As for the locusts, they are well-known and famous, and they are edible, based on what has been established in the Sahih from Abu Ya'fur who said: I asked Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa about the locusts, and he replied: We went on military expeditions with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) on seven expeditions, and we would eat locusts. Narrated by Abu Dawud (h/3812), Ibn Abi Shaybah (8/137, 12/525), al-Nubuwwah (5/457), and Ibn 'Adi in "al-Kamil" (7/2539, 2633).

1546: 8865: And their garments (wa-thiyabuhum): 1: Tafsir Mujahid: (1/244).

: 8868: The sea (al-bahr): 2: The scholars differed regarding killing locusts if they descend upon a land and cause damage; it was said: They should not be killed. All the people of jurisprudence (ahl al-fiqh) said: They should be killed. The first group argued that it is a great creation from among the creations of Allah that eats from the provision of Allah, and the pen (of accountability) does not run upon it. Also, based on what was narrated: "Do not kill the locusts, for they are the greatest army of Allah." The majority argued that leaving them results in the corruption of wealth, and the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) permitted fighting the Muslim if he intends to take one's wealth, so if the locusts intend to corrupt wealth, it is more appropriate that killing them be permissible.

1548: 8879: The glorification (al-tasbih): 1: Tafsir Ibn Kathir: (2/242).

1549: 8880: They fulfill (yufu): 1: Al-Durr: (3/520).

See: Tafsir Ibn Kathir: (2/243).

1550: 8887: Before you (qablakum): 1: Authentic, agreed upon. Narrated by al-Bukhari (4/213), Muslim in (al-Salam, h/92), Sharh al-Sunnah (5/254), al-Mishkat (15411), Tajrid (146, 504), Habib (2/56), Ithaf (6/391), al-Baghawi (2/278), and Bidayah (2/143).
