: 16376: The Book: 2: Most exegetes maintain that the one who possessed knowledge of the Book is Asaf ibn Barkhiya, and he was from the Children of Israel. He was a truthful one who memorized the Greatest Name of Allah; if He is asked by it, He gives, and if He is called upon by it, He answers. 'A'isha—may Allah be pleased with her—said: The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said: "The Greatest Name of Allah, by which Asaf ibn Barkhiya prayed, is: O Living, O Sustainer (Ya Hayy, Ya Qayyum)." Ibn Abi Bazza said: The man who possessed knowledge of the Book was named Astum, and he was a devout worshipper among the Children of Israel, as mentioned by Al-Ghaznawi. However, that which the majority adhere to, as mentioned previously, is that he was a righteous man from the Children of Israel named Asaf ibn Barkhiya.
