17138: Before them: 1: Al-Bukhari narrated from Khabbab ibn al-Aratt, who said: We complained to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, while he was reclining on a garment of his in the shade of the Kaaba. We said to him: Will you not seek victory for us? Will you not pray for us? He said: "There were those before you, a man would be taken and a pit would be dug for him in the earth, and he would be placed in it. Then a saw would be brought and placed upon his head, and he would be cut in two; and his flesh and bones would be combed with iron combs, but that would not divert him from his religion. By Allah, this matter will be completed until a rider travels from Sanaa to Hadhramaut fearing none but Allah, and the wolf for his sheep, but you are being impatient." Narrated by Al-Bukhari (9/26), Al-Fath (12/315), Abu Dawud (h/2649), Al-Tabarani (4/72, 75), and Al-Qurtubi (10/188, 13/324).

17148: That is: 1: This is how it appears in the "original," while in the margin it is "he returns it," and in Al-Durr it is "he sees it," see: (6/450).

: 17148: As: 2: Obliterated in the "original," and the addition is from Al-Manthur (6/450). In the "original" it is "his Lord."

17153: Allah: 1: Al-Qurtubi said in the interpretation of this verse: That is: And whoever: 17156: For himself: 2: Strives in the religion, and is patient in fighting the disbelievers and performing acts of obedience, then he only strives for himself, meaning: the reward for all of that, and no benefit from that returns to Allah.

17163: They used to do: 1: The saying of the Almighty: "And We will surely reward them the best of what they used to do," meaning: for their best deeds, which are acts of obedience. Then it was said: It is possible that your evil deeds committed during idolatry are expiated, and you are rewarded for the good deeds you did in Islam.
