'Ata' al-Khurasani said: "The Ha is the opening of His names Hamid (Praiseworthy), Hannan (Compassionate), Halim (Forbearing), and Hakim (Wise); and the Mim is the opening of His names Malik (King), Majid (Glorious), Mannan (Bestower), Mutakabbir (Proud), and Musawwir (Fashioner)." This is evidenced by what Anas narrated: that a Bedouin asked the Prophet (peace be upon him): "The beginning of names and the openings of the chapters."
