Qatadah, Mujahid, Al-Hasan, and others said the same. It was also said: "Except for wretchedness and happiness, for they do not change." This was stated by Ibn 'Umar. Al-Mahdi said: "The meaning of this statement is that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, commands the angels regarding what will occur in that year, and it has always been in His knowledge, the Mighty and Majestic." 'Ikrimah said: "It is the night of the middle of Sha'ban; in it, the affair of the year is finalized, the living are removed from the dead, and the pilgrims (Hajjaj) are recorded; no one is added to them, and no one is subtracted from them."
