: 13720: Her chastity: 3: Al-Qurtubi said in the interpretation of this verse: That is, "And mention Maryam who guarded her chastity." He only mentioned her, though she is not one of the Prophets, to complete the mention of 'Isa—peace be upon him. For this reason, He said: "And We made her and her son a sign for the worlds," and He did not say "two signs" because the meaning of the speech is: We made their state, their affair, and their story a sign for the worlds. And "ahsanat" (guarded) means: she practiced chastity and refrained from immorality. It is also said that what is meant by the "farj" (chastity/opening): the opening of the garment; that is, no suspicion attached to her garment, meaning she was pure of garments.
