a barrier of pardon or otherwise, his testimony shall not be accepted. Shaykh Abu al-Hasan al-Lakhmi said: His testimony during the period of the delay is suspended. He preferred the view that repentance is only attained by retracting the accusation; otherwise, what kind of return to uprightness (adalah) is there for an upright person if he makes an accusation, is lashed, and remains upon his uprightness?

2532: 14181: The truthful ones: 1: The reason for the revelation of this verse is what was narrated by Abu Dawud from Ibn Abbas, that Hilal ibn Umayyah accused his wife in the presence of the Prophet (peace be upon him) with Sharik ibn al-Sahma', so the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Proof, or a penalty (hadd) on your back." So this verse was revealed.
