2590: 14527: Chastity: 1: It is narrated from Jabir ibn Abd Allah and Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that this verse was revealed regarding Abd Allah ibn Ubayy. He had two slave girls, one called Mu'adhah and the other Musaykah, and he used to force them into adultery, beating them for it, seeking gain and the earning of children. This was complained about to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and so the verse was revealed regarding him and those among the hypocrites who did as he did.
