: 14680: The mirage: 2: Al-Qurtubi said: This is a parable that Allah, the Exalted, has struck for the disbelievers. They rely on the reward of their deeds, but when they reach Allah, the Exalted, they find that the reward for their deeds is encompassed by disbelief; that is, they find nothing, just as the one who seeks the mirage finds nothing but land that has no water in it, so he perishes or dies.
2613: 14684: He has enumerated it: 1: Tafsir Mujahid: (2/443).
: 14685: The human: 2: Al-Qurtubi said: Allah, the Exalted, struck another parable for the disbelievers, meaning: their deeds are like a mirage in a flat expanse or like darkness. Al-Zajjaj said: If you wish, you may make the parable that of the mirage, and if you wish, you may make it that of the darkness.
The "deep sea" (al-bahr al-lujji) is attributed to the "lujjah" (depth), which is that whose bottom cannot be reached. The "lujjah" is the bulk of the water, and its plural is "lujaj." The sea "iltaja" (is in a state of turmoil) when its waves crash; from this is what was narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: "Whoever boards the sea when it is in turmoil, the protection (of Allah) is absolved from him."

: 14695: Light: 2: Al-Qurtubi said in the interpretation of this verse: By which one who is faced with confusing matters is guided. Ibn 'Abbas said: Meaning, whoever Allah does not grant a religion, he has no religion; and whoever Allah does not grant a light to walk by on the Day of Resurrection will not be guided to Paradise, as per His saying, the Almighty: "And He will grant you a light by which you may walk."
