most of them hear with the hearing of acceptance, or reflect upon what you say and understand it. That is, they are in the position of one who does not understand or hear. It was said: the meaning is that because they did not benefit from what they hear, it is as if they did not hear at all, and what is meant are the people of Mecca. It was also said: 'am' (or) is in the sense of 'bal' (nay) in such a context.
2701: 15207: A way: 1: His saying, the Almighty: 'Nay, they are even further astray in their way,' since there is no reckoning or punishment for cattle. Muqatil said: Beasts know their Lord, are guided to their pastures, and are led by their masters who manage them, while these [people] are not led and do not know their Lord who created them and provided for them. It was said: because even if beasts do not understand the validity of monotheism and prophethood, they also do not believe in their falsehood.

: 15235: A spreading (nushuran): 4: His saying, the Almighty: 'And [We made] sleep for rest' (subatan), meaning: a relief for your bodies by your cessation from occupations. The root of 'subat' is from stretching (al-tamaddud). It is said: a woman 'sabatat' her hair, meaning: she unbraided it and let it loose, and a man is 'masbut', meaning: stretched of stature. It is said: sleep is called 'subat' because it occurs with stretching, and in stretching there is a sense of rest. It is also said: 'al-sabt' is cutting off; thus, sleep is a cessation from occupation, and from this is the 'Sabt' (Sabbath) of the Jews, because of their cessation from work during it.
