: 15924: The sky: 3: Abu Ubaydah said: "Kisaf" (pieces) is the plural of "kisfah", like "sidr" and "sidrah". Al-Sulami and Hafs read it as "kisafan", also the plural of "kisfah", which is the piece or the part; its singular form is "kisrah" and "kisr".
Al-Jawhari said: "Al-kisfah" is the piece of a thing. It is said: "Give me a piece (kisfah) of your garment." The plural is "kisaf" and "kusuf".
It is also said: "Al-kusuf" and "al-kisfah" are one and the same.
2817: 15940: Mighty: 1: Al-Qurtubi said in the interpretation of this verse: Allah the Almighty withheld the wind from them for seven days and unleashed upon them the heat until it seized their breath. Neither shade nor water benefited them, so they would enter the tunnels to cool themselves, only to find them even hotter than the surface. So they fled to the wilderness, and a cloud shaded them, which is the "Zullah" (shadow/canopy). They found coolness and a breeze in it, then it rained fire upon them and they burned.
