2456 - Muhammad b. They did not say that, except that there were two tribes in the Children of Israel; prophethood was in one of them, and kingship was in the other. A prophet would only be sent from the tribe of prophethood, and no one would rule over the earth except someone from the tribe of kingship. When He sent Talut, he was not from either of the two tribes, so He chose him over them and increased him in knowledge and physique. Because of that, they said: "How can he have kingship over us while we are more worthy of kingship than him and he is not from either of the two tribes?" فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَقُولُوا ذَلِكَ، إِلا أَنَّهُ كَانَ فِي بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ سِبْطَانِ، كَانَ فِي أَحَدِهِمَا النُّبُوَّةُ، وَكَانَ فِي الآخَرِ الْمُلْكُ، فَلا يُبْعَثُ نَبِيٌّ إِلا مَنْ كَانَ مِنْ سِبْطِ النُّبُوَّةِ، وَلا يَمْلِكُ عَلَى الأَرْضِ أَحَدا، إِلا مَنْ كَانَ مِنْ سِبْطِ الْمَلِكِ، وَأَنَّهُ ابْتَعَثَ طَالُوتَ حِينَ ابْتَعَثَهُ وليس من واحد مِنَ السِّبْطَيْنِ، فَاخْتَارَهُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَزَادَهُ بَسْطَةً فِي الْعِلْمِ وَالْجِسْمِ، وَمِنْ أَجْلِ ذَلِكَ قَالُوا أَنَّى يَكُونُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ عَلَيْنَا وَنَحْنُ أَحَقُّ بِالْمُلْكِ مِنْهُ وَلَيْسَ وَاحِدًا مِنَ السِّبْطَيْنِ قَالَ: إِنَّ اللَّهَ اصْطَفَاهُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَزَادَهُ بَسْطَةً فِي الْعِلْمِ وَالْجِسْمِ وَرُوِيَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ وَقَتَادَةَ وَالرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ بِبَعْضِ ذَلِكَ.
