"Then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold. It has no breaking." He said: "It has no breaking," meaning: it has no cessation—repeating it twice—until entering Paradise.
It is narrated from al-Suddi similar to that.
[The second interpretation]
2629 - Hajjaj b. Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah reported to us, Warqa' reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "It has no breaking," [it refers to]: "Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves." It is narrated from Sa'id b. Jubayr similar to that.
His saying: "Allah is the ally of those who believe. He brings them out from darknesses into the light."
2630 - My father narrated to us, Yahya b. al-Mughirah reported to us, Jarir reported to us, from Mansur, from 'Abdah b. Abi Lubabah, from Miqsam or Mujahid, regarding the saying of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic: "Allah is the ally of those who believe. He brings them out from darknesses into the light," he said: There were a people who believed in 'Isa (Jesus) and a people who disbelieved in him. When Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent, those who had disbelieved in 'Isa believed in him, and those who had believed in 'Isa disbelieved in him. Thus, He said: "Allah is the ally of those who believe. He brings them out from darknesses into the light," meaning: He brings them out from their disbelief in 'Isa to faith in Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is narrated from Abu Malik, Muqatil b. Hayyan, al-Rabi' b. Anas, and Qatadah similar to that.
His saying, the Exalted: "And those who disbelieved."
2631 - I read to Muhammad b. al-Fadl, Muhammad b. 'Ali reported to us, Muhammad b. Muzahim reported to us, from Bukayr, from Muqatil, regarding His saying: "And those who disbelieved," meaning: the People of the Scripture.
[His saying: Their allies are the Taghut]
Its interpretation has already preceded.
His saying: "They bring them out from the light into the darknesses."
2632 - And by the same chain from Muqatil b. Hayyan, regarding His saying: "And those who disbelieved, their allies are the Taghut; they bring them out from the light into the darknesses," meaning: the People of the Scripture. They had believed in Muhammad (peace be upon him) and knew that he was the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and they found him in their scriptures, and they were believers in him before he was sent. Then when Allah sent him, they disbelieved, rejected, and denied him. That is their coming out of the light, meaning from their belief in Muhammad (peace be upon him) before that, and by the darknesses, he means: their disbelief in Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is narrated from al-Rabi' b. Anas, Qatadah, and Abu Malik similar to that.
