Sa'id b. Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And Allah does not love corruption," i.e., He does not love the doing of it, nor is He pleased with it.
The second view:
1936 - Yunus b. 'Abd al-A'la informed us by way of recitation, Ibn Wahb informed us, Malik informed me, from Yahya b. Sa'id, that he heard Sa'id b. al-Musayyib saying: "Cutting gold and silver coins is part of the corruption on earth." It was also narrated from 'Umar b. 'Abd al-'Aziz something similar.
His saying: "And when it is said to him, 'Fear Allah,' pride takes him to sin."
1937 - My father narrated to us, Sidan b. Mudarib narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman b. al-'Uryan narrated to us, 'Abd al-Hamid b. Dinar narrated to us, from Abu Raja' al-'Utaridi, that he heard 'Ali b. Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, recite this verse: "And when it is said to him, 'Fear Allah,' pride takes him to sin," up to His saying: "...is Compassionate to the servants." He then fought these two [camps].
His saying: "So Hell is sufficient for him, and how evil is that resting place!"
1938 - My father narrated to us, 'Isa b. Ja'far, the Judge of al-Rayy, narrated to us, Muslim b. Khalid narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding the saying of Allah: "And how evil is the resting place," he said: "How evil is what they have prepared for themselves."
His saying: "And of the people is he who sells his soul, seeking the pleasure of Allah. And Allah is Compassionate to the servants."
[The first view]
1939 - My father narrated to us, Musa b. Isma'il narrated to us, Hammad b. Salamah narrated to us, from 'Ali b. Zayd, from Sa'id b. al-Musayyib, that Suhayb arrived, migrating toward the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. A group of idolaters from Quraysh followed him, so he dismounted and emptied his quiver(1) and said: "O assembly of Quraysh, you know that I am the best archer among you. By Allah, you shall not reach me until I shoot every arrow in my quiver at you, then I will strike you with my sword as long as there is anything left of it in my hand, then you may do as you wish afterwards." He then said: "If you wish, I will guide you to my wealth in Mecca and you leave my path clear?" They replied: "Guide us to your wealth in Mecca and we will leave you alone." They made a covenant upon that, so he guided them, and the Quran was revealed to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: "And of the people is he who sells his soul, seeking the pleasure of Allah. And Allah is Compassionate to the servants." When the Messenger of Allah saw Suhayb, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to him: "The sale has profited, O Abu Yahya. The sale has profited, O Abu Yahya. The sale has profited, O Abu Yahya." He then recited the Quran to him, meaning His saying: "And of the people is he who sells his soul, seeking the pleasure of Allah. And Allah is Compassionate to the servants." It was also narrated from Abu al-'Aliyah and al-Rabi' b. Anas something similar.
