الترجمة · EN

2931 - 'Ali b. al-Husayn narrated to us, with his chain of narration reaching to al-Dahhak, regarding His saying: "You do not wrong, nor are you wronged," he said: "He who holds your wealth against you shall not wrong you."

His saying, the Exalted: "And if [the debtor] is in hardship"

2932 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih reported to us, Mu'awiyah b. Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali b. Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And if [the debtor] is in hardship," meaning: the one who is being requested for payment.

2933 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Yunus b. Bukayr reported to us, Muhammad b. Ishaq reported to us, someone I do not accuse informed me, from Aban b. 'Uthman and 'Umar b. 'Abd al-'Aziz, that they both said: "Whoever has nothing but a dwelling, he is—by Allah—in hardship, among those whom Allah commanded to be granted respite. If he has any surplus, [let him pay]; otherwise, let him [the creditor] grant him respite until Allah provides for him."

[His saying: "Then let there be postponement until a time of ease"]

[The first view]

2934 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Ibn Fudayl reported to us, from Yazid b. Abi Ziyad, from Mujahid, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And if [the debtor] is in hardship, then let there be postponement until a time of ease," he said: It was revealed regarding interest.

2935 - Muhammad b. Sa'd al-'Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to us, my uncle narrated to me, from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And if [the debtor] is in hardship, then let there be postponement until a time of ease," it is only commanded regarding interest, that one should grant respite to the one in hardship. Respite is not in [the case of] a trust, but rather trusts must be rendered back to their owners. It was narrated from Shurayh, Ibrahim, and Ibn 'Ubayd b. 'Umayr that they said: It was revealed regarding interest.

2936 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And if [the debtor] is in hardship, then let there be postponement until a time of ease," he said: He shall delay him and not add anything to it.

And the second view:

2937 - My father narrated to us, Ibrahim b. Musa reported to us, Hisham b. Yusuf informed us, from Ibn Jurayj, 'Ata' said: "Then let there be postponement until a time of ease" applies to interest and debt.
