Sufyan, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding "for a specified term," he said: For a known term.

2950 - Yunus b. Habib narrated to us, Abu Dawud reported to us, Hammad b. Salamah reported to us, from 'Ali b. Zayd, from Yusuf b. Mihran, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, regarding the saying of Allah: "O you who have believed, when you contract a debt for a specified term, then write it down," that the first person to deny was Adam (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Allah showed him... he saw a man, bright, whose light was radiant. He said: "O my Lord, who is this?" He said: "This is your son David." He said: "O my Lord, what is his lifespan?" He said: "Sixty years." He said: "O my Lord, increase his lifespan." He said: "No, unless you increase it from your own life." He said: "And what is my lifespan?" He said: "One thousand years." Adam said: "I have gifted forty years to him." He said: So Allah wrote a document for him and had His angels witness it. When death approached him and the angels came to him, he said: "There are still forty years remaining of my life." They said: "You gifted them to your son David." He said: "I did not gift anything to anyone." He said: So Allah brought out the document, and the angels testified to it.
2951 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih reported to us, Mu'awiyah b. Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali b. Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding his saying: "when you contract a debt for a specified term, then write it down," he said: He commanded testimony at the time of contracting a debt so that denial and forgetfulness would not enter into it. So whoever does not call for witness in that regard has disobeyed.
2952 - 'Ali b. al-Husayn narrated to us, Musa b. Harun al-Dulabi reported to us, Marwan reported to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak, regarding his saying: "O you who have believed, when you contract a debt for a specified term, then write it down," he said: Whatever sale there is, small or large, for a specified term, then Allah has commanded regarding it writing and evidence until its term.
2953 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Abi Ja'far reported to us, from his father, from al-Rabi', regarding his saying: "then write it down," he said: This was obligatory.

٢٩٥٠ - حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: إِذَا تَدَايَنْتُمْ بِدَيْنٍ إِلَى أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى فَاكْتُبُوهُ إِنَّ أَوَّلَ مَنْ جَحَدَ آدَمُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ أَرَاهُ ( ... ) «١» رَأَى رَجُلًا أزهر ساطع نُورُهُ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَبِّ مَنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ هَذَا ابْنُكَ دَاوُدُ. قَالَ: يَا رَبِّ، فَمَا عُمْرُهُ؟ قَالَ: سِتُّونَ سَنَةً، قَالَ: يَا رَبِّ زِدْ فِي عُمْرِهِ. قَالَ: لَا، إِلا أَنْ تُزِيدَهُ مِنْ عُمُرِكَ قَالَ:
وَمَا عُمْرِي؟ قَالَ: أَلْفُ سَنَةٍ. قَالَ: آدَمُ: فَقَدْ وَهَبَتُ لَهُ أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً. قَالَ: فَكَتَبَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ كِتَابًا، وَأَشْهَدَ عَلَيْهِ مَلائِكَتَهُ. فَلَمَّا حَضَرَهُ الْمَوْتُ، وَجَاءَتْهُ الْمَلائِكَةُ، قَالَ: إِنَّهُ قَدْ بَقِيَ مِنْ عُمْرِي أربعين سَنَةٌ. قَالُوا: إِنَّكَ قَدْ وَهَبْتُهَا لابْنِكَ دَاوُدَ. قَالَ: مَا وَهَبْتُ لأَحَدٍ شَيْئًا. قَالَ: فَأَخْرَجَ اللَّهُ الْكِتَابَ، وَشَهِدَ عَلَيْهِ الْمَلائِكَةُ.
٢٩٥١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَوْلُهُ إِذَا تَدَايَنْتُمْ بِدَيْنٍ إِلَى أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى فَاكْتُبُوهُ فَأَمَرَ بِالشَّهَادَةِ عِنْدَ الْمُدَايَنَةِ، لِكَيْلا يَدْخُلَ فِي ذَلِكَ جُحُودٌ وَلا نِسْيَانٌ، فَمَنْ لَمْ يَشْهَدْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ فَقَدْ عَصَى.
٢٩٥٢ - حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ الدُّولابِيَّ، ثنا مَرْوَانُ عَنْ جُوَيْبِرٍ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، فِي قَوْلِهِ: يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا تَدَايَنْتُمْ بِدَيْنٍ إِلَى أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى فَاكْتُبُوهُ مَا كَانَ مِنْ بَيْعٍ إِلَى أَجْلٍ صَغِيرٍ أَوْ كَبِيرٍ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ أَمَرَ فِيهِ بِالْكِتَابِ وَالْبَيِّنَةِ إِلَى أَجَلِهِ.
