heard it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)? He said: 'I would then be very bold, for I have heard it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) not once, not twice, nor three times,' until he mentioned seven times.
The Second Aspect:
3181 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih reported to us, Mu'awiyah b. Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali b. Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "So as for those in whose hearts is deviation," meaning the people of doubt.
It was also narrated from Mujahid and al-Suddi that they both said: "Doubt."
The Third Aspect:
3182 - I read to Muhammad b. al-Fadl, Muhammad b. 'Ali reported to us, Muhammad b. Muzahim reported to us, from Bukayr b. Ma'ruf, from Muqatil b. Hayyan regarding His saying: "So as for those in whose hearts is deviation," meaning: Huyayy b. Akhtab and his companions from among the Jews.
The Fourth Aspect:
3183 - Muhammad b. Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan informed us, Salamah reported to us, he said: Muhammad b. Ishaq said: "So as for those in whose hearts is deviation," meaning: a turning away from guidance.
His saying, the Exalted: "They follow that which is not entirely clear of it."
3184 - My father narrated to us, Abu al-Walid al-Tayalisi reported to us, Yazid b. Ibrahim al-Tustari and Hammad b. Salamah reported to us, from Ibn Abi Mulaykah, from al-Qasim b. Muhammad, regarding the saying of Allah: "So as for those in whose hearts is deviation, they follow that which is not entirely clear of it," the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When you see those who follow what is not entirely clear of it, then those are the ones Allah has named, so beware of them."
3185 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih reported to us: Mu'awiyah b. Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali b. Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "They follow that which is not entirely clear of it," he said: They superimpose the decisive upon the not entirely clear, and the not entirely clear upon the decisive, and they confuse matters; so Allah caused confusion upon them.
3186 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi:
(1). Musnad al-Imam Ahmad 4/262 contains an addition in the chain of narration; it says: 'Abd Allah b. Shawdhab narrated to me from Abu Ghalib, he said: I was in the mosque of Damascus. (2). Muslim, Book of Knowledge, no. 2665, 4/2053.
سمعته مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَ: إِنِّي إِذًا لَجَرِيءٌ، لَقَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَيْرَ مَرَّةٍ وَلا اثْنَتَيْنِ وَلا ثَلاثٍ حَتَّى ذَكَرَ سَبْعًا «١» .

٣١٨١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ زَيْغٌ يَعْنِي أَهْلَ الشَّكِّ

وَرُوِيَ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ وَالسُّدِّيِّ قَالا: شَكٌّ.
وَالْوَجْهُ الثَّالِثُ:
٣١٨٢ - قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُزَاحِمٍ عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ مَعْرُوفٍ، عَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ فِي قَوْلِهِ: فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ زَيْغٌ يَعْنِي: حُيَيَّ بْنَ أَخْطَبَ، وَأَصْحَابَهُ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ.
وَالْوَجْهُ الرَّابِعُ:
٣١٨٣ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ نحيى، أنبأ أَبُو غَسَّانَ، أنا سَلَمَةُ قَالَ: قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ زَيْغٌ أَيْ: مَيْلٌ عَنِ الْهُدَى.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: فَيَتَّبِعُونَ مَا تَشَابَهَ مِنْهُ
٣١٨٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ وَحَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ فِي قلوبهم زيغ فيتبعون مَا تَشَابَهَ مِنْهُ فَقَال َرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الَّذِينَ يَتَّبِعُونَ مَا تَشَابَهَ مِنْهُ فَأُولَئِكَ الَّذِينَ سَمَّى اللَّهُ فَاحْذَرُوهُمُ «٢» .
٣١٨٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ: حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلُهُ: فَيَتَّبِعُونَ مَا تَشَابَهَ مِنْهُ قَالَ: فَيَحْمِلُونَ الْمُحْكَمَ عَلَى الْمُتَشَابِهِ. وَالْمُتَشَابِهَ عَلَى الْمُحْكَمِ وَيَلْبِسُونَ، فَلَبَّسَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ.
٣١٨٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، ثنا أسباط، عن السدي:
(١) . مسند الإمام أحمد ٤/ ٢٦٢ فيه زيادة في السند قال: حدثني عبد الله بن شوذب عن أبى غالب قال: كنت في مسجد دمشق(٢) . مسلم كتاب العلم رقم ٢٦٦٥ ٤/ ٢٠٥٣.
