And His saying: "Indeed, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful."
1865 - Muhammad b. al-'Abbas narrated to us, Muhammad b. 'Amr Zunayj narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, he said: Muhammad b. Ishaq said: "Indeed, Allah is Forgiving," meaning: He forgives the sin.
His saying: "Merciful"
1866 - Through the same chain regarding His saying: "Merciful," he said: He has mercy upon the servants despite what is in them [of shortcomings].
His saying: "So when you have completed your rites (manasik)"
[The first interpretation]
1867 - al-Hajjaj b. Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "So when you have completed your rites," he said: The shedding of blood [sacrifices].
And the second interpretation:
1868 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, from Ibrahim b. Yazid, from 'Ata': "So when you have completed your rites," he said: Your Hajj.
His saying: "Then remember Allah as you remember your fathers"
There is disagreement regarding its interpretation; one of them is:
[The first interpretation]
1869 - My father narrated to us, Ibrahim b. Muhammad b. 'Ar'arah narrated to us, Mu'adh b. Hisham narrated to us, my father narrated to me, from 'Amr b. Malik, from Abu al-Jawza', he said: I said to Ibn 'Abbas: Regarding the saying of Allah: "As you remember your fathers, or with greater remembrance," he said: A man might have a day pass by him and he does not mention his father. He said: It is not that. Rather, it means: You should be angrier for the sake of Allah when He is disobeyed, more than your anger when your father is mentioned with evil, or even more.
And the second interpretation:
1870 - Ahmad b. al-Qasim b. 'Atiyyah narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman al-Dashtaki narrated to us, my father narrated to me, al-Ash'ath b. Ishaq narrated to us, from Ja'far b. Abi al-Mughirah, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: The people of the pre-Islamic period (Jahiliyyah) used to stand at the sites of the pilgrimage, and one of them would say: "My father used to provide food, bear the burdens (al-hamalat), and pay the blood money (diyat)." They had no remembrance other than the deeds of their fathers. Then Allah the Almighty revealed to His Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him: "Then remember Allah as you remember your fathers," meaning: the remembrance of their fathers in the Jahiliyyah, or with greater remembrance. It was narrated from Anas b. Malik, Abu Wa'il, 'Ata' b. Abi Rabah in one of his two statements, Sa'id b. Jubayr, 'Ikrimah in one of his narrations, Mujahid, al-Suddi, 'Ata' al-Khurasani, al-Rabi' b. Anas, al-Hasan, Qatadah, Muhammad b. Ka'b, and Muqatil b. Hayyan, the like of this.
