hateful to you. Jihad is therefore enjoined upon everyone, whether one engages in battle or stays behind. The one who stays behind serves as a reserve; if he is called upon for help, he assists; if he is called to provide succor, he provides it; if he is mobilized, he goes forth; and if he is not needed, he remains behind.
The saying: "While it is hateful to you."
2016 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya b. 'Abd Allah b. Bukayr narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' b. Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding His saying: "While it is hateful to you," meaning: fighting is a hardship for you.
It is reported from Qatadah that he said: "It is difficult for you."
The saying of the Almighty: "And perhaps."
2017 - Abu Bakr b. Abi Musa narrated to us, Harun b. Hatim narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Hammad narrated to us, from Asbat b. Nasr, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik: Everything in the Qur'an that uses "'asa" (perhaps/it may be) implies a certainty [of occurrence], except for two instances: one in [Surat] al-Tahrim: "Perhaps his Lord, if he divorced you [all]," and in [Surat] Bani Isra'il: "It may be that your Lord will have mercy upon you."
The saying: "And perhaps you dislike a thing while it is good for you."
2018 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya b. 'Abd Allah b. Bukayr narrated to us, 'Abd Allah b. Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' b. Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "And perhaps you dislike a thing," meaning: Jihad, the fighting of the polytheists, "while it is good for you," and Allah makes its outcome victory, spoils of war, and martyrdom.
2019 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad b. Talhah narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And perhaps you dislike a thing while it is good for you," he says: Indeed, in fighting there is the acquisition of spoils, manifestation [of truth/power], and martyrdom; while for you in remaining behind, there is the risk that you will not manifest over the polytheists, nor be martyred, nor obtain anything.
The saying of the Almighty: "And perhaps you love a thing while it is evil for you. And Allah knows, while you know not."
2020 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya b. 'Abd Allah b. Bukayr narrated to us, 'Abd Allah b. Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' b. Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "And perhaps you love a thing..."
