His saying (the Exalted): "And they ask you about menstruation."
2108 - Muhammad b. Ahmad b. al-Junayd al-Daqqaq al-Baghdadi narrated to us, 'Amr b. 'Asim al-Kilabi narrated to us, Hammad b. Salamah narrated to us, Thabit and 'Asim al-Ahwal informed us, from Anas b. Malik, that the Jews, when a woman among them was menstruating, would turn her out of the house, neither eat with her, drink with her, nor associate with her in the houses. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was asked about that, so Allah the Exalted revealed: "And they ask you about menstruation. Say, 'It is harm,'" to the end of the verse. He said: So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) commanded them to eat with them, to be with them in the houses, and to enjoy everything except intercourse.
2109 - 'Abd Allah b. Ahmad al-Dashtaki narrated to us, my father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibrahim al-Sa'igh, from Yazid al-Nahwi, from 'Ikrimah, that Ibn 'Abbas informed him that the Quran was revealed concerning the menstruating woman, as the Muslims would turn them out of their houses like the practice of the non-Arabs. Then they sought a legal ruling from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) regarding that. So the Quran came down regarding that, and Allah said to His Messenger: "And they ask you about menstruation."
2110 - I read to Muhammad b. al-Fadl b. Musa: Muhammad b. 'Ali b. al-Hasan b. Shaqiq narrated to us, Muhammad b. Muzahim informed us, from Bukayr b. Ma'ruf, from Muqatil b. Hayyan, regarding His saying: "And they ask you about menstruation," that it was revealed concerning Thabit b. al-Dahdah; he is Abu al-Dahdah, the owner of the garden.
His saying: "It is harm."
2111 - 'Abd Allah b. Ahmad narrated to us, my father narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibrahim al-Sa'igh, from Yazid al-Nahwi, from 'Ikrimah, that Ibn 'Abbas informed him that the Quran was revealed concerning the menstruating woman, and Allah (Mighty and Majestic is He) said to His Messenger: "And they ask you about menstruation." He said: "Say, 'It is harm,'" meaning: it is harm to them.
