His saying: "Then among the people is he who says, 'Our Lord, give us in this world'"

1874 - Abu Bakr b. al-Qasim narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman al-Dashtaki narrated to me, my father narrated to me, my father narrated to me, al-Ash'ath b. Ishaq narrated to us, from Ja'far b. Abi al-Mughirah, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: Some people from the Bedouin used to come to the station [of 'Arafat] and say: "O Allah, make it a year of rain, a year of fertility, and a year of good offspring." They would not mention anything of the affairs of the Hereafter. So Allah revealed concerning them: "Then among the people is he who says, 'Our Lord, give us in this world,' and he will have in the Hereafter no share." It was narrated from Abu Wa'il, Mujahid, al-Suddi, and Muqatil b. Hayyan the like of this.

1875 - Musa b. Harun al-Tusi informed us in what he wrote to me, al-Husayn b. Muhammad al-Marwudhi narrated to us, Shayban narrated to us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "Then among the people is he who says, 'Our Lord, give us in this world,' and he will have in the Hereafter no share," he said: This is a servant who intended [only] the world; for it he spent, for it he traveled, for it he worked, and for it he labored. It was his concern, his intention, his obsession, and his pursuit.

His saying: "And he will have in the Hereafter no share" Its interpretation has already preceded.

His saying: "But among them is he who says, 'Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good'

So Allah revealed concerning them: "Those will have a share of what they have earned, and Allah is swift in account."

The second interpretation:

1877 - It was mentioned from Abu Usamah, from Abu Sa'd, from Abu 'Awn, from Ibn al-Zubayr: "But among them is he who says, 'Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good'" he said: They work in their world for their Hereafter and their world.
